..One of the Fun Way To Learn BIOLOGY..

::: COOPERATIVE LEARNING..Let's try these method: STAD (Student Teams- Achievement Divisions) and JIGSAW :::

I had so much fun today with my biology students from 5 Harvard....The topic of my focus today in biology is about the support and locomotion in humans and animals. Yesterday, i already taught and discussed with them some of the important points in this subtopic and i asked them to divide themselves to 6 small groups for today's presentation. The presentation went awesomely well, and i can say that both party, students and teacher had an awesome time during the Teaching and Learning process..

.As u know, learning pure science subjects can be very hard for students..I mean, we're talking about learning tough subjects like Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Add Math..but, if u know how to tackle the students and once they got their self-confidence, it's gonna be much easier for us, teachers, to teach them these subjects (of course with the right method)...so, im gonna share with u my method of teaching biology..it's called the STAD and JIGSAW method..

What is STAD actually?
Student Teams-Achievement Divisions (STAD)  In Student Teams-Achievement Divisions (STAD), students are assigned to four-member learning teams (in my case, 3 members) that are mixed in performance level, gender, and ethnicity. The teacher presents a lesson, and then students work within their teams to make sure that all team members have mastered the lesson. Finally, all students take individual quizzes on the material ( in my case, i asked them to do presentations and Q&A session follows afterwards). Teams that meet certain criteria may earn certificates or other rewards.

JIGSAW???Pardon me???What is that??
Jigsaw, on the other hand, is a cooperative model in which students are assigned to 6 members teams (in my case, i form 3 members in each group), to work on academic material that has been broken down into sections for each group. For example, in Subchapter 2.1, there are 6 subtopics altogether and i assigned each group to master 1 subtopic. After that, they'll teach the other team with the subtopic that they already mastered and vice versa, by doing presentation in front of the class. Since the only way students can learn the other subsections other than their own is to listen carefully to their teammates, they are motivated to support and show interest in one another’s work.

So, there u go....i forgot to take some pix to show to u how i did the STAD and Jigsaw with my class just now, but i think all teachers must've done these methods somehow.....

To all teachers, let's continue doing what we love to do and stay true to our profession.....Cheerio...

..My First Collaboration With My Supervisor..

 ...ENERGY LITERACY...ANYONE???

I still remember, back in March 2011, few months before i rolled myself in UMS to pursue my Master Degree, i went to UMS to look for a supervisor first with my good friend, Collin..we met few lecturers but in the end, we chose one of the senior lecturer, Dr. lay Yoon Fah to be our supervisor...before we even registered to UMS, he already gave us the opportunity to be his co-author and collaborate with him to write a journal to be submitted to SEAMEO RECSAM, Penang. This study was about energy literacy among secondary school students, in rural and in urban area..We studied how the gender of the students and their school locations really impacted in their level of energy literacy.. So, in June 2011, Collin went to Penang to present our paper..Never in my mind that our paper will be accepted to be published in the OIDA International Journal of Sustainable Development...You can actually find this journal on SCOPUS, SPRINGER and few online journals library...so, help yourself and click the link if you are interested to know more about this journal...happy reading..

..Summary of My 2011 - 2013..

It's been 2 years since i last updated my blog...and in between that year, so many things happened in my life, both sweet and sad things..So, let me just give u some simple updates of what already happened and still going on to this Little Miss Sunshine (or shall i say Mdm??) during that missing 2 years..well, i'm still doing my Master Degree in Research Education, will graduate this year (hopefully)....it's been 2 years since i started with my research back in Sept, 2011. Been to Taiwan (2011), Penang (2011) and Johor (2012) to present my papers and so far still enjoying life as a student and working as a teacher at the same time...tough, but well, like they say, u gotta love what u do...

At last, got married in November, 2013...to my long time, the one and only boyfriend...So, im still a newbie in this world of marriage...still learning and now i understand the point of my parents saying that marriage life is far, far, and much more different than the time when u were still a couple...heheeeee....well, since i'm still a newbie, nothing much to say abt marriage life since my husband and i still living apart from each other (physically)..Im in Keningau and he's based in Kota Kinabalu. But i guess i'm already used to it...

Lost my beloved uncles, my dad's elder bro and my mom's younger bro on the same year (2013)...with only 2 days apart...Something very rare, i mean, dat doesn't really happen to most people but it did happened to my family...while my uncle was still lying in the coffin (dad's side), my other uncle (mom's side) was taken by God to rest eternally on the other day......very painful but yet it taught me many thgs...if u ask me the one lesson that i learnt the most from this experience, i say, FORGIVE and FORGET....don't hold grudge and to ALWAYS LOVE THE PEOPLE CLOSE TO YOU...because you'll never know when u're gonna lose them or they gonna lose you....LIFE IS SO UNPREDICTABLE.....

So, there u go...a simple summary of my 2012 - 2013..

Now.....2014 is here... and I'm hoping for the best! CHEERIO...
